Move your mouse around, to aim, to turn, or just to look around.
Click your left-mouse-button to throw a disc.
Press the up-arrow key to start walking to your disc.
When there, click your right-mouse-button to pick up the disc.
Press Shift-Q to bring up a menu of options (game levels).
Press Escape , then X, to exit the game.

Can I customize the game?
Yes.
Press F1, F2. You will see a dialog box with lots of options.

Can I change the weather?
Press F1, F3. Select the wind, fog, etc.

How do I get a new terrain?
Go to terrain page, and download a terrain.
Run the installer, and the terrain will be placed in your game folder.
-NEW-
All terrains are now available in a compressed format.
A compressed terrain will be un-compressed when you start the game and press F1, F9.
Compressed terrains will be un-compressed, smoothed, blended, and produce a very nice experience.
Those players with a fast Internet connection can also download an un-compressed terrain.
An un-compressed terrain has slightly more detail in terrain and colors.
In most cases, compressed (small) terrains will provide excellent results for all players.

How do I play the game on a new terrain?
Press Ctrl-T or Shift-Q,L to load the new terrain.
You will see a listing of all terrain file in your game folder.
Choose one.

Can I go to my favorite spot on each terrain?
Yes, here's how.
When on a terrain...
go to your favorite spot on the terrain.
press F1, F5 to save that spot.
Whenever you go back to this terrain, you will be taken to your favorite spot.
This is a fairly-recent update, so some game owners may have to re-download the game to get this function.
You will get lots of other updates at the same time, so go for it.

How big can a terrain be?
A terrain can be any size, but most terrains are 1/2 mile square.
The larger the area that a terrain represents, the less detail it will have.
Most disc golf courses fit in a 1/2 mile square area.
Examples:
the Hart Park terrain is 5280 feet on each side.
the Dela terrain is 4000 feet on each side.
the Opening terrain is 2640 feet on each side.

Can I build a course on any terrain?
Yes. Just load the terrain and build your course.
Game owners playing your course must have that terrain in their game folder.

When I go to a terrain, I'm under water. Why?
The starting favorite-spot might be under water on some terrains.
Just move (swim) to a spot on land and press F1, F5.
Next time you come to the terrain, you will be on that spot.

Can I make my own terrain?
Well, you can make a gray-scale heightmap and send it to the DFS team.
Heighmaps should be 2049 by 2049 pixels and be in a lossless file format. (BMP,PNG)
We'll see what we can do with them.
If you sent a heightmap for your local course, we'll do our best to make a terrain for you.

Can I build a real course on its terrain?
If we have the terrain to offer, then yes.
The terrain page has 3 terrains that are real areas of real courses.
Hart Park
DeLaveaga
Lake Casitas
NOTE: the Dela and Casitas terrains are not available at this time, but if you want to build the real courses for us, I will send you the terrains to work with.

How do I know if a hole has a mandatory?
Press -Tab- key while playing a course.
The holes with mandatories will be tinted pink or blue-ish.

Why can't I see where the mandatories are?
Press M-key while playing a course to toggle the mandatory meshes on or off.
If "on", a go-around mando will look like a screen-mesh.
and a go-through mando will look like a green pane of glass.
Note: you can only see a mandatory mesh from the front side.

Can I turn off the mesh-looking thing?
Yes, by pressing M-key.
Also, there is a preference (F1,F2) to see or not-see mandos by default.

What is that big green pane of glass?
That is a go-through mandatory.
Your disc must pass through the glass wall.
If you miss, you must un-wind and go through before holing-out, or be penalized.

How do I build a mandatory into a hole?
Place the tee-pad, then walk to the mando spot, and press M-key.
Choose right, left, or double mando.
Choose go-around or go-through mando.
Follow the instructions on screen, and you will be designing unique and beautiful holes for sure.

What are the different types of mandatories?
Right, left, or double, and each of these can be a go-around or a go-through.
That's 6 different kinds of mandatories.

How do I edit a mandatory on a hole?
While editing a hole, press M-key.
Follow the instructions on screen.

Can a hole have more than one mandatory?
No.
Put in lots of trees or objects blocking certain shot paths.

How do I select a particular disc to throw?
Press J, or click the scroll-wheel on your mouse.
Use your mouse to click a disc in the listing.

Can I curve the flight?
Yes. Press keys 1 through 9 to change the hyzer angle.
You can also press and hold the scroll-button on your mouse,
then move the mouse left and right, to change the disc angle.
If the disc list is up, you can left-click on the disc profile.
Click on each side of the disc pic to change the angle.
Click in the middle to level disc.

Can I throw side-arm?
Yes.
A side-arm throw has the same flight and physics as a left-handed throw.
Press H, to change from right-handed to left-handed.
You will see an L or R in the lower-left stats area.
If the disc listing is up, you may click on the L or R to change it.

Can I throw really far?
well...
You can jack the power up to 64 miles-per-hour.
You can walk up onto a hilltop and throw downward.
You can do a run-up when you throw a shot.
If you don't throw really far in real-life,
please keep the power level down in this game.
Just kiddin ;)

How do I put discs in and out of my bag?
Bring up the disc list.
Hold the Ctrl-key, then left-click your mouse on the disc.
Do the same thing to remove a disc from your bag.

Can I re-arrange the order of the discs in my bag?
Yes.
To move a disc to the top of your bag...
Hold the Shift-key, then left-click your mouse on the disc.
Keep doing this until the discs are in the order you like.

How do I color the discs?
Right-click on a disc in the listing.
The disc will pup up, with some color palettes. Left-click anywhere on the screen to color the disc plastic.
Right-click anywhere on the screen to color the disc label.
Click the X when done.

How do I examine a disc up close?
Press I
Your current disc will pup up in front of you.
Hold the mouse left-button, move the mouse around, to turn the disc.
Hold the mouse right-button, move the mouse, to move disc closer.
Press I again when done.

Can I lose a disc?
Not really.
When playing a course, you can lose a disc in water, and get a penalty,
but you won't run out of disc to throw.

How do I play a disc golf course?
Press Shift-Q, and then P
Select a course file from the Windows file list.

You should select your game options with F1,F2 before playing a course.

Do I have to walk to each shot I throw?
Not if you selected "Auto-move player" in the Game Preferences (F1,F2)
Some people will want to walk, some will want it to be more automatic.

I recommend always setting auto-move on when playing a putting-only course.
Very fun.

Note:
The auto-move feature will usually move you into position to throw your next shot,
but may only move you close to the disc.
Be sure that your are legally behind the mini-marker and ready to throw.

Just a tip, unless you want a lot of P's on your score card. :(

How do I see the score-card?
Press the Tab key to see the score-card.
Look on the Preferences screen to set other score-card options.
For instance: you can have the score-card pop up after each hole is completed, then go away.

Is there a record kept of all my scores?
Yes, in a file named scores.txt
Aces and other memorable shots are stored in a file named aces.txt

Can I go to a particular hole, and play it?
This is a secret function that I will now reveal.
press ctrl-g
type in the hole number
press enter

Your score for the course will not be valid if you skip around.

This is a good way to practice or test holes you have built.

Can I skip holes on a course?
Yes, by doing Ctrl-G, hole-number, Enter.

Can I throw a mulligan?
No. Unless you just do the above, but your score will be messed-up.

How do I design my own course?
Press Shift-Q, D
Follow the instructions in the upper-left of the screen.
Go step-by-step
Don't get discouraged.
You can bail-out at any time if you goof up. Then just try it again.

Remember to do Ctrl, S to save your course.
Give it any name you want, but if you give it a name that already exists,
you will over-write the previous course, and it will be gone.

I recommend making a backup copy of all the important data on your PC on a daily basis.

Can I put 3 basket positions on each hole?
I'm gonna say yes.
Make this selection on the Preferences screen at F1,F2

This makes your course different every time someone plays it.
Jerry made me put this option in, and it's awesome, I think.

Can I set the difficulty of a course?
You can do this when you start building the course.
You can select the water-level, wind, chain sensitivity, etc.
Take a look and you'll see what I mean.

How do I change a course after building it?
Press Shift-Q, E
Select the course to edit.
All your options are shown in the upper-left of the screen.
Go step-by-step.
Don't get discouraged.
I know it looks a little goofy.
But, it works.

Note:
When complete, you can save the course with a different name that you started with.
This will automatically give you a backup copy of your course as you change it.
When the course is the way you want it, delete all the old course files.

Note:
A course file will be named "course_name.cse"
In other words, it will have a file extension of ".cse"
and can be stored in your game folder, or anywhere on your hard-drive
It's up to you where you put these files as you build them.

How do I delete a tree or object?
You don't delete trees while building the course. You only place them.
Edit the course and select "Edit Trees" or "Edit Objects"
Walk close to the tree to be deleted, and press the Del or Delete key.
Every time you press the Delete key, a tree will be deleted, so be careful.
Get close to the one you want to delete before pressing the Delete key.

How do I move a tree or object?
Edit your course. Delete the tree or object (as above). Then place a new one.

How do I play this so-called speed safari?
Press Shift-Q, S to play

Here are some secret codes...
As you press S:
1. hold the Ctrl-key for more baskets (Super)
2. hold the Shift-key for even more baskets (Wildman)
3. hold both the Ctrl and Shift keys for maximum baskets (Crazed)

The object is to run around like a wild-man or a crazed disc golfer trying to sink
a disk into every basket as fast as you can.

Most of you will fit the crazed-disc-golfer role, so have at it, and enjoy.

Note:
With many baskets on the screen, some PCs may run slowly.
Don't fret...
Just do a F1,F2 and select "Baskets are pole-holes" before playing the Speed-Safari.

Then, the game should run lightning-fast.

Just doin' what I can for my peeps.

What's the object?
The object is to learn to use the big-arm
also, to throw a disc as far as possible
and, to throw a disc into the basket that sits at world-record distance
and, to have fun
and, to look around to see what it looks like at Primm, Nevada
and, to learn a little about disc and throwing physics.

If you learn to throw pretty good with the big-arm,
I'll include it in the next game release, as an option to play a course with.

Can I get chopped in half?
In real-life you would, but not in this game.
I've kept blood out of this game... for now.

Does this device exist in real life?
I believe that someone at Gateway discs knows a guy who's building a robotic device to throw discs.
You'll have to talk to Gateway.

Can I play a course with the big-arm?
Not yet.
If I get some good feedback on the big-arm,
I'll build it into the next game release as a means to play a course.
or
I'll devise more challenges built around the big-arm on the dry lake.
